Ashburn Shooting Stars Gold Win USSSA World Series

Salisbury, MD, July 23, 2012: The 12U Ashburn Shooting Stars Gold travel Fastpitch softball team representing Ashburn Girls Softball League won the 12U United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) Eastern World Series held in Salisbury Maryland. The five-day World Series was comprised of 30 teams from the east coast to include teams from as far away as North Carolina, upstate New York, Michigan and Illinois.
The 12U Shooting Stars Gold posted a 9-0, record while outscoring their opponents 89-4. The Shooting Stars Gold posted some very impressive wins against some tough competition. The Stars Gold used a combination of great pitching, impressive defensive and an explosive offense, which included aggressive base running to win the title. “This was a total team effort, all eleven girls played a part in this win” said Head Coach, Rick McCarty. He went on to say “That before each game I told the girls the only team here that can beat us is ourselves and they really took that message to heart’ said McCarty. In addition to winning, the World Series title Emily McCarty was awarded the Outstanding Pitcher Award and Grace Mattimore was presented with the Sportsmanship Award by the tournament staff.

The 12U Ashburn Shooting Stars Gold have had a season to remember. They have posted an impressive 97-23-3 record over the past year. They are the USSSA Virginia State Class A Champions as well as the PONY Mid-Atlantic Regional Champions. The Shooting Stars Gold have won eight tournaments this season as well as being runner up five times and the team has posted seventeen top five finishes. The Shooting Stars Gold season will conclude with the NSA Busch Gardens Classic next week in Williamsburg, VA with the Stars Gold playing up in the 14U division. The team hopes these successes will carry forward into next season when the team must move up to the 14U Division. All indications are positive since the Shooting Stars Gold was runner up in the 14U Crab Claw Classic tournament last month in Maryland.
The 12U Shooting Stars Gold players are: Michelle Sullivan, Olivia Overton, Samantha Carver, Emily McCarty, Kailey Shannon, Allison Kreyer, Amanda Nee, Mackenzie Fisher, Mackenzie Meyer, Keira Womack and Grace Mattimore. The 12U Coaches are Head Coach Rick McCarty, Assistant Coaches; Dave Carver, John Nee, Chris Sullivan and Jeff Shannon.
