Heinz Josef Eiermann, 88, of Lansdowne, VA, formerly of Alexandria, VA, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, with his wife, Lorraine, by his side.
Heinz was born in Baden, Germany on March 2, 1924. He graduated from Erlangen University in Erlangen, Germany with a degree in pharmaceutical chemistry in 1948. He worked as a pharmacist in Germany, and then moved to Brazil in 1952 to work as a chemist for Johnson & Johnson in Sao Paulo. There, he lived with relatives who had previously moved to Brazil. In 1954, Heinz moved to the United States. He lived and worked in New Jersey as an employee at Shulton Inc. until 1973. Before resigning from Shulton, he achieved the position of Vice President of Research of the Cosmetics and Toiletries Division. In 1973, he moved to Virginia to work for the Food and Drug Administration as the Director of the Division of Cosmetics Technology, and, later, as the Director of the Division of Colors and Cosmetics. He retired from the FDA in 1991 and later became a Technical and Regulatory Consultant.
Heinz enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling the world, and experiencing different cultures. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Lorraine, and his brother Werner. Heinz is also survived by his stepchildren: Valerie Covarrubias, Pamela (and Russell) Werner, Cas (and Lisa) Kowalewski; and grandchildren: Max, Stefani and Bridget Werner, and Cas, Megan and Kelly Kowalewski.
A memorial service will be held at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, in Leesburg at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1.
