Jon Saunders Wijnand, 42, of Leesburg since 2007, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, in Leesburg. Jon was born July 23, 1970, in Medan, Indonesia, to the late Elizabeth S. Wijnand-Green and Mr. Jan Wijnand.

Jon grew up in Indonesia, Australia, and then Fairfax, VA.  He received his bachelor’s degree in Aviation Administration from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL, with the class of 1992. He was a war history buff, enjoyed running and fishing, and throughout his life had a passion for airplanes. Jon was a diehard Redskins fan, but above all, he was a loving husband to Sharon and a devoted father to Jon.

Jon is survived by his beloved wife of 7 years: Sharon Lehnhard Wijnand, of Leesburg; his son: Jon Russell Wijnand, of Leesburg; his father: Jan Wijnand and his wife Ursula Alebrand of Hobe Sound, FL; three sisters:  Nicole (and Rick) Kirk, of Shelton, CT, Pietanella (and Greg) West, of Leesburg; Carin (and Brent) Robertson, of Queensland, Australia; nine nephews; two nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service was held in November.

In lieu of flowers, Sharon is requesting donations be made to Jon Russell Wijnand’s college fund. Contributions may be mailed to 606 North Street NE, Leesburg, VA 20176.
