Marching Spartans Win Competition at JMU
The Broad Run Marching Spartans swept several categories at a Class 1A competition at James Madison University this past weekend and took first place. The band vied against 13 other bands for the honors and also outscored all bands in Class 2A.
The show, entitled Espionage, featured songs from The Incredibles, Mission Impossible, Harlem Nocturne, and Welcome to Cuba from James Bond. With a spy vs. spy theme, the color guard and band were divided into two groups with one side trying to capture a "top secret" briefcase.
The band won “captions” for in the following categories:
- best percussion
- color guard
- music
- visual
- general effect
The band has performed well in several recent competitions:
- First place in a Class 2A competition at Herndon High School Sept. 24, with captions for best percussion, best color guard, and best visual
- Third place in Class 1A during an Oct. 8 competition at Stafford High School, with captions for best percussion, best color guard and best visual
- First place on Oct. 15 in Class 2A at James Woods High School, with captions for best percussion, best color guard, best visual, and best overall effect
