Earlier this month, Ashburn’s Potomac Green received the Humanitarian of the Year award from the Washington Metropolitan Chapter Community Associations Institute, a nonprofit organization that serves community organizations, during the 2011 WMCCAI Conference & Expo in Washington, DC.
Winning communities were recognized during the “Proven Best Practices: Hear it from the Winners” seminar. The Humanitarian of the Year award is given to the association that demonstrates service to the community beyond its own boundaries.
The Community Association of the Year Contest rewards the best community associations in the Washington metropolitan area. Forty-nine applications were submitted for the 2010 competition. The winning communities were:
- Medium Community Association of the Year, which recognizes communities that demonstrate excellence in all facets of association operations and governance: Talltree South Condominium Association, Annandale, VA, managed by Rick Balzhiser, Cardinal Management Group Inc.
- Large Community Association of the Year: New Bristow Village, Bristow, VA, managed by Crystal Partin, Community Management Corporation.
- Very Large Community Association of the Year: King Farm Citizens Assembly Inc., Rockville, MD, managed by Legum & Norman Inc.
- Communicator of the Year, which recognizes the community that best communicates to residents via a community website, newsletter or other established communications infrastructure: Heritage Hunt Homeowners Association Inc., Gainesville, VA; managed by Craig Magargel, Community Management Corporation.
- Humanitarian of the Year: Potomac Green Community Association, Ashburn, VA; managed by Mark Walker, The Wentworth Group.
