The owners of 2 Pink Ladys, a cleaning company that serves Loudoun County and the surrounding area, have a soft spot for helping others.
Christy Cook and Debbie Sturrock have been cleaning homes independently for about 15 years. A year ago, the two friends decided to partner and create 2 Pink Ladys, which specializes in residential and commercial cleaning, but they wanted part of their business to give back to the community.
“We’ve been caregivers to cancer patients and we’ve also experienced the loss of family members due to cancer and we want to help others,” Christy Cook explained.
Initially, the two teamed up with Cleaning for a Reason, an organization that offers free house cleaning services to women battling cancer. Cook said Sturrock came up with the idea of creating their own program, “Swapping Mops for Memories,” which targets the whole family of anyone trying to beat cancer.
“If any family member is going through cancer treatment it is just as difficult as if you are going through it yourself, because women become the primary caregivers,” Cook said.
In December, Cook and Sturrock went to clean a home of a patient the Friday before Christmas and the homeowner could not have been more grateful, Cook said.
“I didn’t think it would make us feel so emotional to help people, but it did,” she said, adding that cleaning bathrooms, dusting and vacuuming may seem very simple, but it is not easy when there are other priorities, such as focusing on a family members’ health.
To sign up for the program, visit 2pinkladys.com and fill out a short form. Cook and Sturrock will then contact you to set up an appointment. Families receive three free cleanings, or once a month for three months.
“Everything is so emotional and a struggle when going through treatment, let us help make sure your house is clean,” Cook added.
