A Day of 19th Century 'Base Ball' at Oatlands

Families stepped back into the 1860s and spent a Sunday watching vintage baseball teams play ball.

Three teams from the Mid Atlantic Vintage Base Ball League played doubleheaders Sunday, June 12, at Oatland Plantation.

Following the rules and customs of 1860s baseball, team did not use gloves, helmets or catching gear. Uniforms and equipment were authentic replicas of the mid-1860s.  The crowd lounged in lawn chairs and on blankets as they watched the games played in an open field of the plantation.
