An Alamo to Call Our Own, Ashburn Booted from DC Region

After snarky comments from papers in the big city, new drafthouse cinema disassociates DC from One Loudoun theater.

So with the recent news of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema coming to Ashburn's One Loudoun also came a parochial snipe from writers at the Washington City Paper and the DCist who didn’t consider Ashburn close enough to nation’s capital to be considered part of the DC area.

Forget that Ashburn is adjacent to Dulles International Airport, which has become DC’s primary airport over the years. Never mind that the WASHINGTON Redskins — at least for the time being — call Ashburn their corporate home. And just ignore when those DC publications ask whether anyone would make the drive that Ashburn commuters who work in DC make every day. In a few years, barring any major changes at the last minute, Ashburn will be connected to DC via Metro.

Apparently, to publications on the “inside,” we’re just hicks from the sticks, too far away at 30 miles for anyone to drive. Granted we're not city folk.

It all just seemed silly, considering Alamo has plans for other theaters in the region. But Alamo caved; ours will be Alamo Ashburn. So when the other DC locations open, will be able to be part of the “DC” club? Maybe we’ll opt out.

So what do you think? Are we part of the DC region? Are you insulted that some exclude us from the region?
