It's official Ashburn: football season is finally right around the corner. Although regular season action is still a few weeks away, Saturday offers local football fans plenty of options to whet their appetites for gridiron action. From a Ryan Diviney fundraiser and scrimmage at Broad Run, to fan appreciation day at Redskins Park, and a scrimmage at defending state champion Briar Woods, Saturday should be a great kickoff to the season for Ashburn football fans. Here's your guide to this Saturday's action:

Ryan Diviney Fundraiser and Maroon and Gold Game: Broad Run (write up courtesy of coach Matt Griffis)

The Broad Run football program has planned a Ryan Diviney Fundraiser Saturday, Aug. 6, from 9 a.m. to noon on the Broad Run football field. Free refreshments will be available to all guests.
The football program has secured a sponsor that will match the first $5,000 donated. Donation buckets will be available at the stadium to receive your donation. Anyone unable but still wishing to contribute, can send a check payable to the Ryan Diviney SNT to:

100% of all donations will go to the Ryan Diviney Fund.
Event Timeline: Broad Run encourages attendees to be on the game field and along the track to watch the practice. Once the scrimmage begins, the Spartans ask that everyone be on the track or in the bleachers.
- 9:00 – Team Warm Up
- 9:15 – Position Drills
- 10:00 – Hitting Drills
- 10:45 – Inner Squad Scrimmage
After the scrimmage, children are encouraged to talk to the players and get autographs.
Redskins Fan Appreciation Day
The Washington Redskins will host Fan Appreciation Day Saturday, Aug. 6, at Redskins Park, from approximately 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
According to redskins.com, the festivities will include a 90-minute Redskins practice, addresses by general manager Bruce Allen and head coach Mike Shanahan, a player and coach autograph session after practice, and performances by the Redskins Cheerleaders and the Redskins Marching Band.
Parking opens at 9 a.m., and the gates open at 9:30 a.m. Fans are reminded to arrive early, as past Fan Appreciation days have drawn huge crowds.
Briar Woods Intrasquad Scrimmage
Last but certainly not least, the defending AA Division 4 state champion Briar Woods Falcons will host an intrasquad practice and scrimmage Saturday at Briar Woods High School starting at around 9 a.m. Come check out the Falcons’ Alex Carter, one of the top high school recruits in Virginia, who will take his wide receiver and defensive back skills to Stanford next season, as well as super sophomore quarterback Trace McSorley who looks to lead the Falcons on a run for another state title.
