Danish Prince Helps Demo Recycling Product in Ashburn

Denmark-based Mil-tek, welcomed Denmark's royal family member to its American headquarters.

With a row of Danish flags flying outside of its Ashburn location, recycling equipment manufacturer Mil-tek welcomed the Prince Consort of Denmark. As part of a worldwide launch of Mil-tek’s latest recycling solution, H.R.H. Prince Henrik lead the debut and demonstration of Mil-tek’s innovative polystyrene reducer – the EPS 1800.

“I have always had a vision of bringing these products to America,” said Kristian Skannerup, Mil-tek Worldwide’s owner and founder. “We are honored that His Royal Highness joined us to unveil our latest innovative solution, the EPS 1800. In addition to our line of balers, Mil-tek continues to provide solutions at the source of waste that saves funds, resources and time for companies around the world.”

While the festivities of the event surrounded the Prince’s visit, it is the goals of Mil-tek that were showcased. The Danish company helps small- and large-scale businesses recycle packaging waste such as cardboard boxes, plastics and papers.

“I don’t think businesses know what they have and how to recycle it. Hopefully Mil-tek will help spread that knowledge,” said Kate Glass, Loudoun County’s Environmental Compliance Specialist.

For example, the new EPS 1800 assists in recycling polystyrene, which is large, cumbersome packaging material that doesn’t break down in landfills. By compacting and recycling Polystyrene with Mil-tek’s machine, the company estimates that businesses can reduce existing waste costs by up to 80 percent and compact the material at a 40-to-one ratio.

“I think Mil-tek’s products would be a great tool for businesses to improve their recycling,” explained Glass. “The concept that you can compact your recyclables, while still increasing your volume and not being limited by how often you are serviced is wonderful. Businesses need to look to see if the products from Mil-tek will meet their needs.”

Mil-tek, founded by Skannerup in 1992, recently selected Ashburn as its American headquarters. The company plans to expand across the United States.
