Delgaudio Stripped of Committee Assignments

Supervisor's attorney calls for hearing about accusations against the Sterling representative.

While there was little talk on the Loudoun Board of Supervisors’ dais about changes to standing committee assignments, Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio’s (R) removal from all committees prompted a quick response from his attorney decrying the move.

Delgaudio remains under investigation by a special prosecutor after a former aide accused him of violating board policy and questions were raised about mixing campaign and county office work as well as potential campaign finance violations. No charges have been filed against Delgaudio.

Board Chairman Scott K. York (R-At Large) proposed the new committee assignments and the board voted 8-0-1 to approve them. Delgaudio voted with the majority, while Supervisor Janet Clarke (R-Blue Ridge) was absent for the vote. Delgaudio did not raise objections, but his attorney issued a press release stating that its time to either press forward with the accusations against him or clear his name.

“If Chairman York believes Supervisor Delgaudio engaged in misconduct he should invoke Robert’s Rules of Order to pass a resolution, establish a committee, conduct an investigation and, if necessary, hold a hearing,” Charles King wrote in the release. “Supervisor Delgaudio is the seventh board member Chairman York has accused of misconduct. There is a pattern.  What is different this time is the Chairman’s allegations may be tested in a hearing before the board.            Supervisor Delgaudio hoped voting for the investigation would clear his name faster.”

King explained that Delgaudio did not object to the changes because he did not want to the controversy on the dais.

“He voted for the committee assignments to avoid embroiling the entire Board in another controversy,” King wrote. “A hearing would at least give Supervisor Delgaudio a chance to defend himself.”

Committees as approved:

Transportation/Land Use Committee

Economic Development Committee

Joint Board/School Board Committee

[Correction: Chairman York initially was not listed on the Transportation/Land Use Committee, but he is a member of the committee. The list has been corrected.]
