UPDATE: Reports Say Deputy Shoots, Kills, Costco Employee

LCSO investigating incident in which deputy fired reportedly after woman went after another deputy with a knife.

A Loudoun County Sheriff's deputy shot and killed a Costco employee after she grabbed a knife and began acting erratically before lunging at another deputy, authorities said. One deputy was wounded in the incident.

Sheriff Mike Chapman said deputies first tazed the woman, then shot her when she continued to lunge at them.

"Preliminary indications are that she came at the deputies, and that's when lethal force was used," Chapman said.

Leesburg Today identified the worker as a 38-year-old Sterling woman.

The Washington Post reported the worker became agitated at the end of her shift and began acting erratically

Leesburg Today reports that a deputy was grazed by a bullet fired from another deputy. Only one deputy fired shots, according to the report.

Chapman said investigators are interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance tapes. He added that investigators are interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance tapes but that he feels “confident in the way our deputies responded.”

Renee Haber, a front end manager at the store near the busy intersection of Cascades Parkway and Route 7, told the Post the incident began with the woman grabbed a knife from another station and was making “strange movements” while making "crazy" comments

“She was frightening her supervisor,” Haber told the paper. She said workers there called police.
