For some, the Tally Ho Theatre marks old memories. Soon it may become one.
Market Street Productions (MSP), the operators of the theater in downtown Leesburg since 2008, have given their notice and will be vacating the theatre effective in early September, 2012. Their last day of operation will be on Monday, Sept. 3.
The county has had new theaters open in recent years—Regal Fox 16 Cinemas in Brambleton and the Cobb Theater in Leesburg—to join the existing Regal CountrySide 20.
In the near future, the Dulles Town Center will have a new movie theater, while the Alamo Cinema Drafthouse earlier this year announced plans to open at One Loudoun.
Do you have great memories of the Tally Ho? A movie? A first date? A particularly memorable Last Ham Standing or Jingle Jam? Share them in the comments below.

The first movie I ever remember seeing was at the Tally Ho. I was with my dad and the movie was "The Vikings" starring Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis back in 1958.

Bummer. The town of Leesburg is really hurtin' for businesses right now. Alot of store fronts are sitting vacant as I write this. You'd think Leesburg would pay them to stick around.
Maybe they can turn it into a music venue ala the State in Falls Church? I'd hate to see it turned into another coffee house or eyeglass center.

There is discussion about maintaining it as a performing arts space, so we'll see what happens. Here's more: http://leesburg.patch.com/articles/tally-ho-may-continue-as-performing-arts-venue

Downtown Leesburg would be an excellent location for a nightclub with dancefloor / DJ / bar. With the high volume of people in Leesburg, it would definitely generate business, especially if each night had a different theme: "Top 40, hip hop, country, techno, etc. The surrounding office buildings are closed during the evening so noise would not be an issue.

I was a projectionist in the late 70s-early 80s based out of Fairfax (Fair City Mall and Turnpike Cinemas). I moonlighted at Super 29 Drive In. To get extra income I was also a "floater" - one who fills in at various theatres when other projectionists called in. I remember Tally-Ho and the Herndon Twins were the worst jobs to go to because they seemed so far away what with 2 way traffic and all.. but now with sprawl and all, I'd welcome a chance to work there again. It was a great little theatre.
I miss the old small venues. I don't think I've been to Brambleton FOX theatres one time where they didn't have projector or theatre climate issues.
