Many traditional six-week-long SAT preparation courses cost thousands of dollars, and some students have difficulty committing that much time and money. At the beginning of the school year, Greentree, an English teacher at Westfield High School in Fairfax County, and Harris, a counselor with a background in math, decided to team up to offer something a little different.

The idea behind Turbo Tutoring was simple.

"Let’s make it cheap, let’s make it fast, let’s make it so everyone can do it," said Greentree.

Greentree and Harris, who have a combined 20 years experience tutoring, soon found their services in demand. By the end of the school year, they expect to have given 10 or 11 sessions.

"So much of it comes down to speed. Everyone is so busy," said Greentree.

Word has spread in large part through word-of-mouth and community support. As the business grows, the two hope to give back through fundraisers and scholarships.

"We realize we wouldn’t be here without the community, so we want to reach out and help," Greentree said.

The seminars cost $150. Two seminars are planned from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 7 and May 2 at Briar Woods High School in Brambleton. Anyone interested in learning more can visit the Turbo Tutoring website

Keep up with future seminars as they become available via Turbo Tutoring's calendar.
