LTE: Looking Forward to Ballpark
Former DC United announcer believes stadium at One Loudoun will have positive impact on youth sports.
To the editor:
When I bought in the Potomac Green development five years ago I was excited to learn that in time One Loudoun would bring development to the area that would include business, residential development and entertainment. In part my decision to buy in Potomac Green was that I knew that in time the One Loudoun expansion would add to the property value of its neighbors. I am now even more excited about the proposed construction of a baseball/soccer facility that will be the home of the Loudoun Hounds and an NASL soccer team.
I served as the Public Address announcer for DC’s Major League Soccer team, DC United, from 2004 to 2011. Professional-league sports are especially family friendly and I know from my affiliation with DC United that teams make every effort to reach out to local youth sports. As a resident of Loudoun County since 1978, my children were very much involved in Loudoun County sporting activities; my daughter with the Sterling Youth Soccer Association and my son with both Lower Loudoun Little League as well as the Babe Ruth program.
The arrival of both the Loudoun Hounds and the NASL soccer team will provide benefits to youth sports not only in Loudoun County but much of Northern Virginia. The teams have made a commitment to be good neighbors and to make every effort to minimize the disruption to surrounding communities – in particular, stadium activities won’t add traffic beyond what was planned for the original use of the area where the stadium is to be built. I hope that the Supervisors will approve the park and allow all of Loudoun, its youth and those of us who look forward to attending sporting activities to enjoy its many benefits.
