LTE: Thanking Kaine for Metro

Algonkian supervisor candidate, husband pleased with rail vote.

Dear Editor,

If there’s one thing everybody can agree on these days, it’s the need for a stronger economic recovery, and here in Loudoun, we’ve got a great opportunity to make that happen. I’m talking, of course, about Dulles Rail. Since we are no longer commuting into town every day, we won’t be taking Metro to get to work but there’s another reason people like me and my husband are so excited that the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors made the right decision and opted in to Phase II of the project: economic growth.

Dulles Rail will bring long-term, sustained economic development to Loudoun and all of Northern Virginia. According to George Mason Professor Steven Fuller, the numbers are almost unbelievable: with rail, the average salary will almost double in the next 20 years, the value of our products will do the same in only ten, and the project will create thousands of jobs.

But with all the excitement, we sometimes forget to thank those responsible, so I’d like to take a moment to thank Tim Kaine for his efforts. After decades of promises from governors before him, Kaine pushed this project beyond planning and into reality, working together with Republicans for the benefit of Virginians. He’s always been committed to investing in infrastructure, and Dulles Rail is just one example of Governor Kaine’s policies paying off.

In the Senate, we need representatives who will continue to make achievements like this possible, and November is the perfect time to show Tim Kaine our appreciation.
