McLean Resident Terry McAuliffe Announces Bid for Governor

Politico reports that McAuliffe announced his intentions to his supporters in an email Thursday.

Just days after the presidential campaign season ended, another campaign is about to gear up.

McLean resident Terry McAuliffe announced Thursday he intends to run for governor of Virginia in 2013, when Gov. Bob McDonnell's term ends, Politico reports.

McAuliffe, the former DNC chairman and co-chair of Bill Clinton's 1996 re-election campaign, wrote in an email to supporters on Thursday:

"I realize that after any election some people’s immediate question is about the next campaign. I want to be straightforward with you: I plan on running for Governor of Virginia in 2013.

Over the past four years, I’ve traveled to every corner of Virginia for over 2,400 meetings and events. It is absolutely clear to me that Virginians want their next Governor to focus on job creation and common sense fiscal responsibility instead of divisive partisan issues. If we want Virginia to be the best place for business, we need leaders who prioritize economic growth and move beyond the political issues that are designed to divide us."

A full copy of the email is published on Politico.

The early announcement may be intended to ward off potential primary competitors, including Senator Mark Warner, who is known to be frustrated by the pace and bureaucracy of the Senate.

Early? McAuliffe indicated during the LAST gubernatorial election that he'd be in the race.

Or any other race. In his own words, if it were possible to run for pope he'd be there.

McAuliffe was caught lying about the transportation funding plan. He claimed McDonnell's plan, which was the very same plan as Kaine's, except the former accelerated the issuance of bonds to take advantage of low interest rates, had no funding mechanism. Obviously, since Kaine's plan had a funding mechanism, so did McDonnell's. Later, McAuliffe admitted he lied and that he knew McDonnell's plan had funding. Do we really want someone who would lie about something as important as transportation to be Governor? http://www.politifact.com/virginia/statements/2011/may/18/terry-mcauliffe/terry-mcauliffe-says-virginia-has-no-repayment-pla/

I'm sure Warner has already given this his blessing. I'll work for Terry. The thought of Cooch as Governor is just horrifying.

OMG, the thought of Cuccinelli in any political office (especially governor) is enough to make me want to move to Canada if he actually manages to get elected. I still can't believe anybody voted for him previously. His political grandstanding made us the laughingstock of the nation.

I agree, Cuccinelli in any office especially Governor is just plain offensive on so many levels! So is McDonnell for that matter but we are stuck until his term ends.

A skillful campaign and a concise platform message will win this easily. He's a proven pro. It appears that Virginia voters are wearying of right wing idiopathy.

Sandra, have a good trip. Can you leave in the morning? Cuccinelli is one of the very few honest politicians. Totally unlike the lying McAuliffe. McDonnell is one of our best governors, perhaps only surpassed by Allen. To Gail and RGS, perhaps Sandra has extra room for you.

Honest my a**. Cuccinelli is a grandstanding idiot, as evinced by his stupid, Don Quixote-like lawsuits regarding the health care plan (shot down) and global warming (again, shot down). He's done nothing but waste money! About the only thing he's honest about is wanting attention, which is why he brought those frivolous lawsuits in the first place. He's made a total laughingstock out of Virginia.

Regarding McDonnell, I fail to see why you call him our best governor. IMO he is a total failure. His main campaign promise was to fix transportation issues in Virginia, especially in Northern Virginia. We all see how well that has worked. Our roads and infrastructure are in worse shape than when he took over. His foolhardy attempt to sell off the ABC stores? That went nowhere. My respect goes for two really great governors, Mark Warner and Tim Caine, who actually managed to leave Virginia in better shape than when they started.

As for Allen, he was a total fool (and the rest of Virginia acknowledged that, as he failed to win in his recent election bid). Allen is a racist, and everyone I know thinks he's an idiot for creating the SOLs (which discouraged innovative teaching and replaced it with rote, teach-to-the-test memorization).

I have no respect for anyone who idealizes Cuccinelli, McDonnell, and Allen.

Well said!!!
Sandra and the others are prime examples of the brainwashed hate-filled moronic lemmings of the Uber-Left! They refuse to acknowledge reality, even if it hits them over the head! Let's send them all to Iran or China! And maybe they can take McAuliffe, Obama, and their crooked cronies with them!

And the right's bunch of holier-than-thou busybodies may be honest (debatable), but the Pilgrims left Great Britain to AVOID being told how to worship and live.

I recommend that liberals and moderates vote in the Republican primary against Cucinelli.

No it's not. And you don't have to be registered as Rebublican to register as a delegate in their convention, IIRC.

Of course, I did that once, and now can't get away from the mail and the phone calls. Will it be worth it? I'm thinking it just might be.

Would love to see a democrat in the governor's office in VA again AND as attorney general for that matter. Bob McDonnell and Ken Cuccinelli are nothing but women hating criminals that would stop at nothing to take our rights away. VA has shown that we're true blue in this election by voting Obama and Kaine. I hope voters turn out and do the same in 2014!

EVEN IF that Democrat is Terry McAuliffe?

I frankly do not understand the mentality that one party = good and the other = bad. All the candidates Lynn Lacey mentioned, as well as McAuliffe, are bad for Virginia.
