Metro Tax District Approved, Additions to Come

The Loudoun board signs off so assessments can begin by Jan. 1 to pay for Silver Line.

The Loudoun Board of Supervisors Wednesday voted to authorize a series of new tax districts to pay for Loudoun's share of Metro's Silver Line project.

The vote included most of the properties in those district, but does not include several additions in the Redrum Road area east of Ashburn Village Boulevard. A public hearing on those additions will take place Dec. 11. Also, most of the properites south of S. Sterling Boulevard initially identified in the district were omitted.

The board voted 7-1-1 to establish the district. Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio (R-Sterling) voted against the motion and Chairman Scott K. York (R-At Large) was not at the meeting. A more detailed story will be published later.

No Toll Increase

Loudoun's rail tax districts aren't even sufficient to pay for the Loudoun taxpayer subsidies to Metro... look for more county-wide tax increases coming soon.

Did you know that besides the tax district, the BOS has considered, and the Loudoun Chamber of Commerce endorsed, a Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Tax of up to $0.10/$100 (8% increase over $1.235 base rate)?

And don't forget the sky-rocketing tolls that will reduce mobility and isolate Loudoun from the rest of the DC region.

If enough concerned citizens get involved, we can stop this abuse of taxpayers and toll road users. For more information, visit www.NoTOLLincrease.org or https://www.facebook.com/NoTollIncrease

Claude moore property and all the vacant properties should be valued and taxed at 100's of millions of dollars. These jokers have been sitting on this land for years and aren't paying squat to the county. It's prime real estate and they've been paying next to nothing to the county in assessments while residential owners get taken to the cleaners for 1/4 lots. It's criminal.

This rail project that Loudoun County is struggling to pay for, costs two times what it should cost. Of course the news media is silent about that, just like it is silent about the mid-September 2012 cuts in the MAP-21 money that was supposed to go to the Tifia loan guarantees that were supposed to help us overpay for this rail project. Funny how certain things are just never reported, isn't it.

When is the public going to wake up? I assume it will start to happen in 2013, when the tolls go up along with the taxes, and the jobs start to go away. But that won't be enough. Things will have to keep getting worse, as cars avoiding the Dulles Toll Road jam the side roads worse than anything we have ever seen, and as people find out that the tolls will keep going up for another 30 years or so. Gee, I thought the Silver Line was supposed to REDUCE congestion! But I guess not. (SURPRISE!!!)

Already WMATA is seeing if they can charge us $4.5 million more every year (SURPRISE!!!), and run the train to Largo, instead of the Stadium Armory as was supposedly planned, before it reverses direction. And soon we will be told about the $13.1 Billion that WMATA needs in deferred maintenance and Capital Needs (SURPRISE!!!). And then we can be told about the problem at Rosslyn Tunnel - we need to expand it, or build a bridge or something, to handle the additional rail traffic from the Silver Line. (SURPRISE!!!)
