Metro to Loudoun Letters
Residents across the county have weighed in. Here’s what they said.
Many residents across the county have weighed in on Loudoun’s participation in the planned extension of Metro’s Silver Line beyond Dulles Airport to Ashburn. Here’s a list of those letters, divided into supporters and opponents.
Just a review of the headlines is telling, but each headline is linked to its letter for review.

I was born in Loudoun county, Aldie to be exact, in 1948. On a farm that no longer exists. One can only imagine the changes in the county that I have seen. As a "native & old timer", I support the Metro. It's called progress. The county population has exploded over the last 2 decades which means more congestion, more cars, and more expenses for everyone. We need public transportation whether that be trains, buses or light rail. I know a lot of people want to keep Loudoun county "rustic" but to live in the past only cripples the future. The county's not going to stop growing and people are going to continue to move here. Why wouldn't they, it's a beautiful place.

The number of headlines in each section might lead one to believe that there are more against the Metro than in favor when in fact polls show that 80% of Loudouners are in favor as opposed to 20% against. The issue here is that the Opt-Out people are a lot louder. Don't be fooled by the headlines. Yes to Metro.

People are always louder when they're against something, that's human nature. It plays out online the same way. There's a definite majority FOR Metro... and a bunch of crackpots with flyers and lies on the other side.

That is so true... there definitely is a majority of people FOR Metro. Regardless though I am surprised that the vote was 5-4... it was a close one. We almost didn't get it. If the opponents could have been more cordial towards the supporters then perhaps I would feel more sympathy for them. They were so nasty about the whole thing and nasty to me directly. The sad thing though is that the vote was VERY close. It could have gone either way.

So the same majority conservative voters, that elected the entirely conservative Republican board of supervisors, is in support of a bloated, tax burdensome, metro?
I think not. Ever one of my neighbors likes the idea of Metro, but not the idea of small businesses having top pass tax on to their consumers, or the probability of their property taxes going up.
No to Metro!

Mike -- you're too late -- it just passed. Oh yes! Hello progress!

Volpe, Clarke and Higgins should all resign. They obviously have their head in the sand instead of looking at the economic facts. Del Gaudio is from Mars and only the Martians can call him home. Please Mars, save Sterling and Loudoun County from this uneducated pet rock and take the alien Del Gaudio home.
