Past County Leaders Back Metro

As deadline nears, more weigh in with the hope of influencing board on Silver Line vote.

Seven former members of the Loudoun Board of Supervisors and the Loudoun County School Board signed a letter Monday encouraging the current board to participate in the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project:

Dear Members of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors,

Loudoun County has waited decades for Metro. It is time for that wait to end.

Generations of business and regional planning decisions have been based on the goal of bringing Metro access to Dulles Airport and into Eastern Loudoun. Numerous government entities and hundreds of commercial businesses have spent thousands of hours and countless resources considering and deciding how best to organize our community around that outcome. And the people of Loudoun County, ourselves included, have broadly and loudly expressed our expectation that you will listen to your constituents and move forward with bringing Metro to Loudoun County.

Enough waiting. Enough stalling. Bring Metro to Loudoun now.

Sincerely,

Sally Kurtz – Supervisor 2004-2011
Andrea McGimsey – Supervisor 2008-2011
Chuck Harris – Supervisor – 2000-2003
John Stevens – School Board 2004-2011
Bob Ohneiser – School Board 2004-2011
Priscilla Godfrey – School Board 2004-2011
Tom Marshall – School Board 2008-2011

The reasons are plentiful for opting out and the misguided support of rail at any cost may be why these people are no longer in positions of responsibilty for the county.

Or maybe they are finally able to speak honestly without having to worry about losing your vote.

Past and future politicians alike should be for Metro, it's clean, efficient and exactly what this county needs. The jobs that will be created and the extra business that will come our way will make Loudoun an even better place to live. *0 percent strong and counting Tax Pig. People aren't buying what you are selling my friend.

Myself, and my neighbors (after learning that THEIR wallets will be picked) are against the metro to Loudoun. Let it end at the airport, and we can keep our tax dollars going to our schools and road maintenance. We are not as few as our pro tax and spend democrat pie in the sky metro supporters think we are.

Interesting. I also live in Ashburn and I haven't heard one single person say they were against it. None of MY neighbors, nobody I've talked to at the various schools my kids go to, none of the parents of the kids that my kids play sports with, nobody that frequents my business, not one. I say YES to metro!

Justify rail with a population density of only 600 people per square mile? The metro silver lines biggest beneficiary is the MWAA yet they pay the least. Toll road , Fairfax and Loudoun all pay more then MWAA.Their shenanigans go back decades with no oversite in place the same thing will keep happening. I think the tax pig has some great point Melvin. Didn't I tell you yesterday that your wheelbarrow job is waiting?

just throwing this out there... the population density in the east is much higher than in the west. The density of the Sterling CDP and Sugarland Run CDP is more than 5000 people per square mile. Think before you type my dear Swanson =)

Thanks for pointing out his error, BCan. I think the Western Loudouners forget that those of us in the East live the traffic nightmare daily.

So the same people who clearly did not plan for this rail fiasco, are in favor of proceeding with it. Hmmm.

@Kadey... I would expect an all republican board to vote NO, if they expect to represent their constituents.

They have the five votes already, they are going to listen to the people who put them in office Mike, and 80 percent of us want Metro.

thank you Lina Burton. I looked at your summary and it is very well done. Few are aware of the range of costs and effects you mention.

Only metroSEXUALS will utillize this silly suburban survace. Clearly, the can can is not catching for those who find this form of transportation appealing, for it is the transexuals from transylvania who will prevail in the comming WRAITH if the metro proposal is perpassed, or I think its passed, (but I wanted to make it rime!). Anywhay, the metro is bad becuse some times you just need to strap up your boots, take a swig of good ol brandiwhine whisky, and ship out to common sense cove! Avast yeah maties!

Jerry,
I am confused, are you saying that Metrosexuals will use the Metro, but that Transsexuals will also use it if Phase II is approved? What's wrong with Tranys? Lets get the Metro built and invite them to Loudoun (seriously)! Loudoun County is a place for everyone! And yes they should play Rocky Horror Picture Show on the train. Imagine "Sweet Transvestite" playing over the intercom; that would be so great!

Only Metrosexuals will use Metro? Transvestites from Transylvania? I don't think you need another swig of that whiskey you have made your point quite clear. You would have to be off your rocker drunk to think we don't need Metro.
