Saturday is Doggie Day at Oatlands
Fundraiser to raise money for restoration projects, historic dog statue
Dog owners can take their pets on a different kind of walk this Saturday, Nov. 3, through the grounds of Oatlands Historic House and Gardens in Leesburg.
There will be special walking courses set up in the front fields and also in the historic mansion and garden area from 9 to 11 a.m.
“This event started off as a way to raise money for our beloved dog statue 'Rusty', which came in as number eight in the popular vote for Virginia's most endangered artifacts by the Virginia Association of Museums,” said Andrea McGimsey, executive director at Oatlands.
McGimsey also explained that the event is an opportunity to reach out to a new audience and showcase how Oatlands is a great place to walk and explore nature.
The fundraiser will include door prizes, a raffle for a pet portrait, cider and donuts, along with doggie treats.
Visitors should wear good walking shoes, McGimsey said. The ground is damp, but there is no damage from the storm.
“It is an awesome day to come and experience our beautiful land and stunning historic mansion and gardens with your canine friends,” added McGimsey.
Entry is $20 per dog for one walking course or $30 for both. Participants are asked to bring their dog leashes and clean up bags. Call 703-777-3174 with questions.
