Temps Climb Toward 100 Friday, Exceed it Saturday

The heat in Ashburn could be record-breaking.

The high temperature Friday and Saturday will likely hover at or above 100 again in Ashburn, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Under mostly sunny skies, it will reach 99 degrees Friday; on Saturday, temperatures could reach 104 with a mix of clouds and sun. The heat index both days will be above 105 degrees.

While the high temperatures may not break records on Friday — the record high at Dulles Airport for July 6 (Friday) is 102, set in 1997 — it could set a new one  for July 7 (Saturday). The previous record is 101, set in 2010.

These high temperatures are moving in from the Midwest, where Chicago, St. Louis and other cities were baking Thursday.

“A huge area of excessive heat warnings and heat advisories have been issued across the midwest...where the combination of high temperatures and dewpoints will bring heat index values into triple digits and make for extremely dangerous conditions,” according to an advisory issued by the National Weather Service.

“As the ridge expands eastward over the next few days...much of the eastern third of the country will see a resurgence of the record breaking heat experienced last weekend.”

Temperatures will begin to drop (back into the 90s) Sunday, and it may feel downright cold in comparison Monday, with high temperatures in the mid-80s.
