On Saturday, Potomac River Running and the Broadlands Community Church hosted the BCC 5K and Fall Festival in Ashburn.

The race kick-starts the fall season and likely marked the first time this year Ashburn residents pulled out hoodies, long sleeves and winter coats to attend a race!

The event was friendly for all ages with participants ranging from 4 to 79.

The results for the first place overall male, Girma Tolla, came in at an impressive 14:44, while the overall female winner, Hirut Mandefro, finished in 16:44.

After the run, participants and spectators took part in an old-fashioned fall festival. Entertainment included bounce houses, pumpkin bowling, a rock wall, a 110-foot obstacle course, face painting and other kid-friendly events that kept families smiling for hours.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Ashburn Fire and Rescue Department.
