Verizon workers were on strike this week, in Ashburn and elsewhere.

UPDATE: Video added at 9:30 p.m. Aug. 9.

Verizon workers in Ashburn joined with the Communications Workers of America and continued a strike, now in its third day, against the company for a contract workers say includes severe pay and benefit cuts. Verizon said in a statement that the CWA walked away from negotiations and that it hopes to work out an agreement.

One striker who works at the Ashburn location estimated that the negotiations impact nearly 200 workers at that site. Carolyn Greenfield, who acted as a spokeswoman for the group, works at the Merrifield facility as a cable splicing technician.
