To Chairman York: Loudoun Needs Leadership

Dear Chairman York:

For three terms, you have been elected to lead Loudoun County as Chairman of the Board of Supervisors. When a previous Board stripped you of your authority, a bipartisan coalition of Loudoun legislators acted to reconfirm it with a new law. You are the face of our County, and have direct responsibility for addressing the many serious issues that Loudoun faces.

I am writing you this letter asking you to take that mandate seriously and demonstrate real leadership.

I am asking you to show leadership by no longer tolerating the active participation of the President of a Hate Group on the Board of Supervisors. Strip Eugene Delgaudio of any powers or roles that are discretionary, including his positions on any Board subcommittees.

I am asking you to show leadership by recusing yourself from voting on any issue that has a direct financial benefit to any of your campaign donors, and insisting that all your fellow Supervisors do the same.

I am asking you to show leadership by not passing the buck or dodging the issue of transportation funding. You claim to support roads, Metro and buses, while refusing to lead the County in figuring out how to pay for these badly needed improvements.

I am asking you to show leadership by being truly pro-business, not just pro-growth. Being pro-business is understanding the importance of funding schools, infrastructure, and transportation, as necessary prerequisites for attracting and retaining good businesses. Being pro-business is understanding that tolerating leaders and policies that discriminate against certain people sends a message that not everyone is welcome in Loudoun, including many employers.

I am asking you to show leadership by ensuring that the people who work for Loudoun County can afford to live in Loudoun County. Public employees are the core infrastructure of Loudoun’s quality of life, and deserve to be compensated justly.

I am asking you to show leadership by explaining how a County that could not sustain funding and resources for Drug Court, a program proven to be effective in reducing recurring crimes, has funding and resources to arrest and prosecute good samaritans cleaning up public rights of way.

I am asking you to show leadership by going to Richmond, flanked by every fellow Republican elected official in the County, and demanding Gov. McDonnell be held accountable for stealing the Redskins with state-provided financial incentives, even as Loudoun has to fight tooth and nail for our share of state funding for our schools.

I am asking you, Chairman York, to be Chairman.

Sincerely,

Evan Macbeth
Chair, Loudoun County Democratic Committee

I didn't realise there were so many strange animals in Loudoun County. Pigs with no meat and gorillas over twice their natural size.

ANY politician that ignores the public outcry for public transportation and Metro, should not hold their seats again. Stop passing the buck, figure out how to pay for it, vote for it, then make sure it gets built by the deadline. This county and it's people need the Metro and we are sick of handing over our money to the big pigs of Richmond and not getting anything in return.

Melvin, I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess you get a whole lot of things from the government, like do you have an EBT card? Maybe the supervisors could borrow it so it"
Go ahead, tax as much as you need to... whatever it takes"hey wouldn't have to tax the work population.

So if only people on welfare support the Metro does this mean that 80% of Loudoun is on welfare? Funny, I thought we were one of the richest counties in the country. My mistake. You're right, clearly we can't afford the Metro.

So having an EBT card is wrong?
Shoot I'll vote for metro just because of that statement. My best friend is a single mom of a child with cerebral palsy.. i'm glad I pay taxes so people like her can have the benefits they need!

The leadership we need is leadership willing to listen to the people. The people want Metro, the people need Metro. Time to step out of the dark ages and make this area the thriving area it has the potential to be. We need trains, we need busses we need better roads and its well past time we let the politicians know we demand these things.

Seriously Tax Pig? You think I am on welfare? I have news for you, I am a midle class tax paying american who's tax bill proudly comes to 18 thousand dollars a year. Taxes I pay without throwing a fit complaining. I have been paying those taxes for years. So before you rush to judgement or try to make some absurd point that only welfare people who don't pay taxes want the Metro and we wanna leave you tax payers holding the bag. Yes I pay tons of taxes and yes I don't mind paying more as long as We get the public transportation we need.

Let's not let this become a welfare debate, the facts are, Loudoun has an extremely large population, we are one of the richest counties in the country and we can afford Metro. The article was about leadership and that's exactly what we need right now, the leadership to listen to the will of the people and give us the public transportation we all need.
