In Ephesians Paul tells us what this life Jesus gives us looks like, this life we live as those marked with the seal of the Holy Spirit in baptism. We live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us. The entire purpose of life is giving yourself for the other.

GSA is one of several nonprofits serving the homeless and near-homeless community in the greater Loudoun County area. Led by executive director Vickie Koth, the organization traces its origins back to 1983 and the efforts of a local pastor from Sterling who wanted to provide assistance for the county’s homeless youth.

The organization has since evolved into an exhaustive suite of shelter, case management and outreach services for the greater Loudoun homeless community. Its infrastructure now includes multiple GSA-owned properties that serve as emergency shelters and transitional housing, a Board of Directors, hundreds of dedicated volunteers and a full-time professional staff.

God bless Loudoun County.

"Faith without works is dead" was the teaching from my Christian church as a youth, and I believe it still. A moral government must have more than a symbolic nativity on the courthouse lawn. Public resource priorities must reflect the message of mercy and compassion and justice as well. The Town of Leesburg and the County of Loudoun need weekend and evening public bus service so the working poor can at least get to and from work. You can't buy and maintain a car plus pay rent in this area on the budget of a low-wage job. What are we thinking!? Go on this good walk, yes, of course. Then petition your government for public bus service that coincides with working schedules in retail and restaurant establishments. With the efforts of both, we can accomplish something truly transformative for our citizens. www.robinsonforleesburg.com

Mark, I very much enjoyed walking with your large group of dedicated citizens yesterday. Good works abound, and I am grateful. Now, I propose that government step up to the plate and fulfill its role by providing comprehensive public bus transportation in the evenings and on weekends, so that the low-wage workers can hold jobs without busting their budgets with expensive car maintenance/insurance. Businesses can play a role by sponsoring a bus for advertising (tasteful ads on the busses and shelters), and the riders can play a role by paying a fair fee for services. Everyone wins.
