DESCRIPTION:What is the Loudoun Transition Initiative?\nSustainable Loudo
un and George Washington University are hosting a public forum at the Lo
udoun GWU campus on the evening of Nov 30th to discuss the Loudoun Trans
ition Initiative. What is a transition initiative and why should we atte
nd?\nMany citizens are concerned about the growing impact of global warm
ing\, the long term viability of the local economy\, and/or the over-rel
iance on oil\, wanting to understand the options available to address th
ese issues with like-minded individuals and organizations as a community
. \nThe Transition Movement is comprised of over 600 vibrant\, grassroo
ts community initiatives around the world that seek to build community r
esilience in the face of such challenges as peak oil\, climate change an
d the economic crisis. Transition Initiatives collaborate (not compete)
with other sustainability and environmental&nbsp\;groups\, seeking to mi
tigate these converging global crises by engaging their communities in h
 ome-grown\, citizen-led education\, action\, and multi-stakeholder plann
ing to increase local self-reliance and resilience.\n&nbsp\;\nWe are liv
ing in an age of unprecedented change\, with a number of crises convergi
ng. Climate change\, global economic instability\, erosion of community\
, declining biodiversity\, and resource wars\, have all stemmed from the
availability of cheap\, non-renewable fossil fuels. Global oil producti
on is predicted to irreversibly decline in the next years\, and severe c
limate changes are already taking effect around the world. The coming sh
ocks are likely to impose serious trials on our communities and families
\, so transition initiatives work to mitigate these risks in a positive
 manner.\nConfirmed speakers include:\n\nAndrea McGimsey\, Climate Realit
 y Project \n\n"Climate Reality: Why Should We Care?"\n\n\nCapt. (Navy\,
ret.) Leo Goff\, CNA Military Advisory Board \n\n"Energy Resources: A Ma
 tter of National Security"\n\n\nStewart Schwartz\, Executive Director\,
Coalition for Smarter Growth \n\nSustainable Land Use and Transportation
  Potential in Loudoun\n\n\nWill Stewart\, President\, Sustainable Loudou
n \n\nThe Transition Initiative: What it is and Where We are Going&helli
