Chesterbrook Academy Students in Ashburn Village Replicate Famous Painting as a Gift for President Obama

On Feb. 28, a student from Chesterbrook Academy in Ashburn Village made a very special delivery to the White House. While visiting the White House, the student brought with her a painting created by her pre-kindergarten class. After conducting research to determine what gift they could give to the president, students decided to replicate his favorite painting, "Hope" by George Frederick Watts. The painting, depicting a female allegorical figure of hope, was painted by Watts in 1886 and was the inspiration for President Obama's book, "The Audacity of Hope." Students also wrote a letter to the president detailing their plans to stay physically fit and active, which were inspired by first lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" campaign.
