"Giddy Up and Go" for Healthy Heads 15K and 5K set for May 18

The inaugural "Giddy Up and Go" for Healthy Heads 15K and 5K race will take place on Sunday, May 18 at Locust Hill Farm in Middleburg.

Event organizers from four different groups have come together to raise money and awareness for stroke, brain tumors, acute brain trauma and concussion awareness:  Kathleen McFarlane of KatMac Events, who lost her father to a sudden stroke; Lisa Millar of the Brad Kaminsky Foundation, who lost her brother to a brain tumor; representing Locust Hill Farm, Bridget Bryant and Mason Bryant Howard, who also leads Help our Wounded; and Porcha Dodson of UCLA Neurosurgery.

"We all wanted to do something together for this important cause," McFarlane said. "The money raised at this race will be 100 percent for charity."

McFarlane said they are hoping to attract participation from area schools and will award prizes to the teams with the largest number of participants and the largest fundraising teams.

"We will be running over the hills of Middleburg, so it will be a little different course to run," McFarlane said.

There will be speakers at the event, discussing head injuries, stroke and brain tumors, as well as live music at the post-race party.

"It will be a big family day," McFarlane said.
