Gymnasts set new records at NVGA
Gymnast at NVGA Gymnastics School in Ashburn are setting new school records . This marks NVGA’s 26th year of fielding a competitive girls gymnastics team . It also marks Head Coach Faith Comini’s 29th year as a coach in USA Gymnastics . “ Through all these years of coaching, every gymnast has a special place in my heart, and always will” said Coach Faith. She then added “ I don’t coach to break records but rather to help guide these young woman to a brighter future. Gymnastics is just my tool for doing this.” But modesty and philosophy cannot overshadow the accomplishments of her gymnasts this past season.
Lauren Brendlinger (age seven), a level four gymnast, kicks off her first year participating in gymnastics by qualifying for the Virginia State Championships. She won Silver on Bars with a 9.625 and finishing the year with a 37.10 at the biggest meet of her career. This feat broke the gym’s record held by Allie Daczkowski since 2005. What took eight years to break was broken again just three weeks later at the Virginia All Star State Championships, Deniz Acikgoz scored a 37.175. The next day Jasmyn Bostic Clarke scored a 37.25, breaking the gym record again .

Makayla Harper came close to setting a gym record with her All-Around score of 37.05. All Four girls have entered the 37+ club at NVGA. First year gymnast Camryn Sonnenfeld also qualified all the way to states and with a 9.175 placed 8th on FX. Four NVGA Gymnast in their first year in competitive gymnastics qualified to the Virginia State Championships.
The team has started try-outs for the up coming season and will be running a specialty camp the week of August 19th with Gold Medal Romanian gymnast Catalina Ponor .
