Obituary - Franklin M. Hinckle, Sr.

Franklin Marlow Hinckle, Sr., 93 of Leesburg, Virginia died Friday, August 16, 2013, peacefully at home.

 Franklin was born to the late Thomas Franklin and Eva Bohrer Hinckle on April 17, 1920 in Brunswick, Maryland. He graduated from Brunswick High School in 1938. Franklin was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946. He married Gloria Lee Arvin in 1948, making Leesburg their home in 1961.

 Franklin retired from the Army Corps of Engineers, McMillan Reservoir and Water Treatment facility in Washington D.C. in 1979.

 In addition to his parents, Franklin was predeceased in death by his loving wife, Gloria, of 43 years and his siblings Helen Hinckle Wenner of Brunswick, Maryland, and Thomas Wendell Hinckle of Starksville, Mississippi. 

 Franklin is survived by his daughter Joan Hinckle Woodis of Leesburg, Virginia, and his son Franklin M. Hinckle, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Bettina Halligan Hinckle of Richmond, Virginia, as well as his three grandchildren Sarah Rebecca Woodis of New York, New York, and Ethan Sammis Hinckle and Blair Lee Hinckle, both of Richmond.  He is also survived by his sisters Phyllis Hinckle Lane of Adelphi, Maryland, and Jeannine Griffith Wheeler of Brunswick, Maryland, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, he is survived by his care givers and special friends Mabel Costello of Charles Town, West Virginia, and Stephen Ashby of Leesburg, Virginia.

 Franklin was a member of the Leesburg United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He loved spending time on his front porch visiting with his family and friends.  

 Family and friends will be received from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday, August 19, 2013 at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road, Leesburg, Virginia.  The funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Leesburg United Methodist Church, followed by interment at Union Cemetery in Leesburg.     

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leesburg United Methodist Church, 107 W Market Street Leesburg, Virginia 20176, or Evercare Hospice and Palliative Care, 12018 Sunrise Valley Drive Reston, Virginia 20191.
