Restore PT & Wellness add Dr. Betsy to their team!

“Dr. Betsy” is a native of the Chicago area, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy in 1986 from the University of Illinois Health Sciences Center.  After graduating she left the Windy City to follow her then fiancé, Jeff, to Washington, DC, and where they settled down to start their lives, careers, and family.

Betsy has practiced in Virginia in a number of different capacities over her 25 year career, including hospital-based acute care, outpatient orthopedics and sports, and most recently as a school-based pediatric therapist.  She has had the opportunity to travel and live overseas, in Rabat, Morocco; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and in Pretoria, South Africa.  She volunteered in an orphanage in Morocco, working with disabled children, and  received an Honorary Physiotherapy license in South Africa, under which she volunteered in a public hospital rehabilitation clinic.

In 2001, after focusing her attentions on orthopedic and sports practice back in the U.S., Betsy pursued an advanced certification in the McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy.  Following two years of course work and study, she passed the rigorous certification examination in March 2003 to receive the ”Cert. MDT” title from the McKenzie Institute USA.

As a working mother, Betsy found the niche of school-based physical therapy a perfect match for her and her family of three growing daughters.  She spent eight years working with special-needs children in Loudoun County Public Schools beginning in 2005.  During these years, Betsy enrolled in the Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy program at the Medical College of Virginia and, in August 2010, was awarded the DPT degree.  She was also able to pursue a secondary career in volleyball coaching for a local high school, where she head-coached over four years at both the JV and Varsity levels.  She assistant coached and served as the Movement and Conditioning Specialist for a local volleyball club from 2006-2011.

Betsy continues to enjoy an active lifestyle of volleyball playing, running, yoga and Pilates.   In her quiet moments she enjoys spending time at home with her husband and youngest daughter, gardening, and cheering for both the Nats and the Cubs.
