On March 23, a group of Stone Bridge High School football players hosted a cycle-a-thon at CycleLuv in Leesburg.
The event raised money for the Smashing Walnuts Foundation, and the boys even smashed walnuts after cycling.
The players are hoping to host more events throughout the year to help local organizations. The next event they are participating in is the Giddy Up and Go 15k/5k for Healthy Heads on May 18 in Middleburg.
"Owner Iris Kotmel, was very generous in opening her spin studio for us. It was a very fun afternoon of cycling and raising money," said Kathleen McFarlane, one of the event organizers.
"We had Bulldogs from all grades represented. Lead Bulldogs, Aaron Crawford, Colin Buckley, Max Weis and Aidan McFarlane worked with Coach Mickey Thompson to promote the event and rally friends and teammates to join them for an afternoon of exercise and helping others in our community. Overall a smashing success," McFarlane said.
