$1 Million Lottery Prize Claimed in Sterling

Walt Plummer had to count the zeroes to see just how much he'd won in Mega Million drawing.

Sterling's newest millionaire got the news from a local store clerk — but, first, he received a warning.

“Now don’t have a heart attack…” the clerk told Walt Plummer. The Mega Million ticket was worth $1 million after the June 13 drawing.

Plummer received ceremonial check for the $1 million prize Wednesday at the 7-Eleven on Woodshire Drive. The store also received a $10,000 bonus check for selling the winning ticket.

Mr. Plummer, who works as a cabinet-maker, said he intends to use his winnings to take care of his family and save for retirement.

Just eight days after Plummer's win, a Powerball ticket purchased in Sterling won $1 million. That prize has not been claimed.
