Ashburn Awaits News About Its Boston Marathon Participants

Explosions at the popular annual race killed three and injured 144 at last count.

While nine Ashburn runners intended to run the Boston Marathon Monday at least one withdrew because of injuries ahead of time. Six of the remaining eight finished the race before two explosions near the finish line brought the race to a halt.

The 117th Boston Marathon began with 26 seconds of silence to honor Sandy Hook victims and about three hours after the first runners finished up, there two explosions near the finish line.

At least three people were killed and another 189 injured, according to CNN.

Initial reports indicated additional explosive devices had been found, but updates from multiple media outlets have since reported that those other suspicious were not explosives.
