Ashburn Under Winter Storm Watch Starting Sunday Night
National Weather Service says some areas might see "5 inches or more of snow."
After a "balmy" weekend in the 40s and 50s with some sunshine, get ready for possibly more snow on Monday.
Ashburn and the surrounding area are under a Winter Storm Watch beginning Sunday night, the National Weather Service announced Saturday night. The watch is currently in effect from 11 p.m. Sunday to 4 p.m. Monday. As of Saturday night, Loudoun County was under a Winter Storm Watch; Fairfax County was not.
Chances for snow falling in Ashburn is at 90 percent Monday, mainly between 4 a.m. and 2 p.m. The National Weather Service forecasts that areas under a Winter Storm Watch could see up to 5 inches of snow or more. Highs are expected to reach 33 degrees Monday in Ashburn.
The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang on Saturday said areas under a Winter Storm Watch could see up to 5 inches of snow. "Especially in our colder north and west suburbs, heavy, accumulating snow is possible during the morning rush hour into midday Monday."
The NWS warns that roads will become snow covered and slippery, making travel difficult during the Monday morning commute. Snow will likely reduce visibility to a half mile at times.
Mother Nature could deliver a one-two punch to the area. On Tuesday night, the NWS predicts a 70 percent chance of rain or freezing rain.
