Celebrate with Fireworks and Science

This week's list of fun-filled events for the family.

This week is full of scientific discovery: fireworks explosions, bugs and space.

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK


Where/When: Various communities on Monday, July 4, around 9 p.m.
Why Go: You don’t have to trek down to the D.C. Mall to enjoy the fireworks. Several communities are holding their own celebrations right here. Check for full details.
Pricing: Free.


Where/When: on Tuesday, July 5, at 10:30 a.m.
Why Go: Bring kids ages 6-11 to explore the world of bugs. They’ll learn basic body structure, usefulness and scientific groupings while getting an up-close-and-personal view of the critters.

• DISCOUNT DAYS AT LEESBURG ANIMAL PARK
Where/When: Leesburg Animal Park on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Why Go: Go visit the newest crop of baby animals at $2 off regular admission.
Pricing: Adults $7.95, Seniors $5.95, Children $5.95, Kids under 2 are free.

Where/When: Sterling Community Center on Friday, July 8, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Why Go: Drop in to let kids younger than 10 years old bounce to their hearts’ content on three inflatable moonbounces.

Where/When: Udvar-Hazy Air & Space Museum in Dulles on Saturday, July 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Why Go: Get immersed in science, technology, engineering and mathematics as kids explore space and aviation.
