Treasures on the Turnpike

Celebrate Spring with a daylong “treasure” hunt in the Loudoun countryside. Treasures on the Turnpike begins the morning of Saturday May 21 as The Church of our Redeemer and Aldie welcome people join the village-wide flea market yard sale. Also known as the Great Route 50 Yard Sale this nationwide event encourages people to enjoy the treasures in their own back yard.

The entire village will participate with rummage sales at the church and school, electronics recycling, kids activities, and a Flea Market featuring antiques, crafts, jewelry, railroad artifacts, sterling, and collectibles. "Our Redeemer supports Treasures on the Turnpike as a way bond our community and enjoy ourselves” notes Rev. John Sheehan. The church is accepting donations of furniture, tools, house wares and decorative items through May 14. Volunteers are needed to sort items and staff tables at the event. Father John continues, “We welcome folks who want to help or just join us for a day of family fun.”

Visitors can tour the historic Aldie Mill or stroll through the village enjoying classic rock and blues, southern home cooking, sandwiches and baked goods from Little Apple Pastry shop; “Redeemer Red Hots”; and tasty treats available from various bake sales. Participating merchants will also offer special events to commemorate the celebration, such as the wine tasting at The Aldie Peddler, and raffle tickets for a hot air balloon ride! Music events include Andy Hawk and the Train Wreck Endings and 4 of a Kind.
