FOP Lodge #69 Hosts 12th Cops and Kids Program

Sheriff-elect Chapman, LCSO deputies and volunteers from other local, state and federal agencies turned out for the annual event.

The Loudoun-Dulles Fraternal Order of Police #69 held its 12th annual Cops and Kids Holiday program this past weekend, partnering with Wegmans and Target in Dulles.

The event – supported by local law enforcement including members from the FBI, U.S. Park Police, U.S. Customs, Secret Service, Virginia State Police, DMV, ABC, Cigarette Enforcement, DEA, Purcellville Police Department, Fairfax County Police Department and more than 40 Loudoun County Sheriff’s deputies – provided toys and holiday cheer for area children in need. Nearly 100 children attended, and were greeted by deputies and law enforcement personnel dedicated to supporting the needs of children in our community.

The FOP has held the holiday event each year since 1989 and has raised more than $16,000 in each of those years. The children receive a warm breakfast at Wegmans then shop with a Police Officer at Target. Each child is given a $200 gift card to purchase clothing, toys and gifts.

“The expression on the children’s faces is priceless giving all a memorable experience,” stated John H. Ohrnberger, president of the Loudoun-Dulles FOP in a press release. “This year, over 85 law enforcement professionals volunteered their time to enrich the life and holiday spirit of these children.”

Sheriff-Elect Mike Chapman and Chief Darryl Smith of Purcellville participated in the event.

“I was honored to be a part of this meaningful holiday program and commend the FOP and all the law enforcement professionals who selflessly give their time to make a difference in our community,” Chapman said, according to the release. “I’m especially proud to see so many deputies and other county law enforcement professionals dedicated to such a worthy cause.”

Loudoun’s FOP Lodge #69 is a member of the world's largest organization of sworn law enforcement officers, with more than 325,000 members in more than 2,100 lodges.
