Galilee UMC Plans Backpack Buddies Workshop

Learn about various programs that provide meals for kids during weekends, holidays and school breaks.

Galilee United Methodist Church (GUMC) in Sterling, VA, will serve as the host site for a Backpack Buddies Workshop to be held March 16, 2013. Representatives from Backpack Buddies programs throughout Loudoun County, school personnel and interested community members are invited to attend. Backpack Buddies programs provide underserved children in Loudoun County with meal packs over weekends, holidays and school breaks. GUMC’s Backpack Buddies program was named the Volunteer Loudoun 2012 Outstanding Volunteer Team.

Continental breakfast and box lunch are included. Registration/sign-in begins at 8:30 a.m. The event concludes at 2 p.m. A $5 donation helps defray the cost of food and beverages.

The workshop is scheduled include program model presentations from various Backpack Buddies programs throughout Loudoun County; presentations from school-based program partners; presentations from Generosity:Feeds and Inova Loudoun Mobile Hope; and round-table discussions on new program development, sustainability, networking and next steps to continue to serve those enrolled in Backpack Buddies programs.
