“Big Piece of Paper” Art Exhibit Features Unusual Work

Friends of Franklin Park Art Center announce the opening of "First You Start with a Big Piece of Paper”, the third annual creative challenge exhibit sponsored by Friends of Franklin Park Arts Center. The exhibition features works in a variety of media by local and regional artists, who were asked to incorporate a large piece of brown Kraft paper measuring at least 72 by 30 inches into their artwork.
 
The results of how the artists have interpreted and been inspired by this challenge are truly remarkable. Heads, toads, a dragon, a Hobbit and more! The results are a remarkable mix of torn, cut and manipulated paper; two-dimensional pieces using ink, paint and mixed media; kites and papier maché sculptural forms. The exhibit includes short statements from the artists about the inspiration for their works. Don’t miss this exhibit and the unusual – and amazing  - results from creative artists faced with a unique challenge!
 
Jill Evans-Kavaldjian won a cash award for Most Innovative Work in this judged show for her piece, “First You Start with a Tree”. Ribbons went to Pam Forbes for “Dragon Bones” and Jill Perla for “A Tribute to Colorado Paper”; an honorable mention went to Barbara Neely Sample for her “Pink Flamingo Corsage”.
 
The public is invited to attend a reception for the artists from 3:00-5:00 pm on July 14, 2012, at Franklin Park Arts Center. "First You Start with a Big Piece of Paper…" will be on display in the Gallery at Franklin Park Arts Center now through August 5, 2012. The exhibit and reception are free to the public.
