Collaborative Public Arts Project

The Broadlands Nature Center is the very first venue for a life-sized ceramic sculpture created for the community by local artist, Rosalba Negrete.  Join us Saturday, July 9, from 4:30 to 6:30 PM, rain or shine.  The family friendly opening celebration at 21907 Claiborne Parkway in Ashburn, VA will include music, refreshments, art, children's activities, and more.

The sculpture is a figure with wings because as humans, we all strive to soar.  Inscribed on the wings and figure are descriptions of what art means to several local painters, writers, actors, musicians, potters, sculptors, weavers, photographers and dancers.  What emotion does this art evoke in YOU?  You will have from July 1 to November 1, 2011 to explore this question at The Broadlands Nature Center.  Then, the art will move on to its second venue in Loudoun County.

Rosalba has dual citizenship in Spain and Chile where public art is very prevalent  She observes, "Public art promotes social history and culture.  It fosters interactions between diverse groups of people.  Dialog that builds the cultural identity for the community motivates others to produce unique collaborative art.  This project is my gift to Loudoun County."
