FREE VETERAN’S DAY CONCERT

Local Prominent Choirs Join Forces to Honor Veterans
FREE VETERAN'S DAY CONCERT
Saturday, November 13, 2010, at 7:30 p.m.

Prominent local choirs Master Singers of Virginia and National Men's Chorus will collaborate with Ashburn, Virginia's Broad Run High School choir in a concert honoring veterans this November. The concert is free to the public, and will take place on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at Our Savior's Way Lutheran Church in Ashburn.

Dr. Erik Jones, director of the Master Singers of Virginia, enjoys the opportunity to collaborate with other choirs for this event, and believes that offering the concert at no charge is important. Noting that there are several veterans singing in his choir, Dr. Jones explains, "We hope to honor our country's service men and women by offering music that is both reflective of the spirit of Veteran's Day and of the era of many veterans. We offer this concert at no charge to encourage a strong turnout from the community to support America's heroes and this artistic collaborative effort."

Featured works in the performance include Gorecki's Miserere, Dandridge's arrangement of the rousing spiritual My God is a Rock, and traditional American folk songs arranged by Gail Kubik. Dr. Erik Jones directs the Master Singers of Virginia, Tom Beveridge leads the National Men's Chorus, and Jennifer Kauffmann directs the Broad Run High School choirs. The Washington Post has declared, "The Master Singers of Virginia is among the state's finest choral ensembles."  Celebrating its 16th season, the Master Singers ensemble is committed to performing the highest quality choral music to enrich, educate, and entertain its audiences. National Men's Chorus was founded in June 1999 by its artistic director, Thomas Beveridge. The Chorus has enjoyed critical acclaim from the very beginning. Its first concert was hailed by The Washington Post music critic, Joseph McLellan, as a "triumphant debut" in a performance displaying "exemplary polish, expression, and control."  For more information about the group, visit www.nationalmenschorus.org.
