Hope for Africa Children's Choir Concert

On Friday, December 2nd at 7:30 PM, Crossroads United Methodist Church (UMC) will host a concert by the Hope for Africa Children’s Choir.  Since 2000, Crossroads UMC has partnered with the East Africa Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church in the construction and operation of HUMBLE School, a primary (i.e., elementary) school in Uganda that offers opportunities for education and hope to orphans and vulnerable children whose lives have been adversely affected by poverty, civil wars, famine, HIV/AIDS and other diseases.

The Hope for Africa Children’s Choir is comprised of eleven children from HUMBLE School who have come to the U.S. to share their stories, their love for God, and their incredible energy and gifts of song and dance. The Choir arrived in the U.S. in October under the sponsorship of the United Nations AIDS Awareness program.  They received the honor of being invited by UNAIDS to perform at an event on Capitol Hill on October 26th and at a World AIDS Day event in Washington D.C. on December 1st.  These events draw attention to and aim to increase support for the continuing HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa.  Two of the children in this choir are living with HIV and their stories and continued health are a testament to the care that they receive at HUMBLE School.  The choir also performed during the Ashburn Farm 10K/5K Run for HUMBLE School on Thanksgiving morning, at numerous churches and schools in the northern Virginia, in Richmond, and in central and up-state New York.   

We invite you, your family, and friends to come and witness the choir’s energy and enthusiasm. There is no cost for admission. Donations will be accepted through a free-will offering; money raised by the 2011 Hope for Africa Children’s Choir will be used for the construction of a boys’ dormitory at HUMBLE School and preparation of a 2012 Choir.  The address of the church for the concert is 43454 Crossroads Dr. Ashburn, VA 20147.
