War of the Worlds (on-stage radio play)

The Sterling Playmakers presents a visual reenactment of Orson Welles' 1938 broadcast of the H.G. Wells classic -- but without the radio.

In October, 1938, the CBS radio network aired a special Halloween dramatization of the sci-fi classic War of the Worlds, hosted by future filmmaker Orson Welles.  The presentation was so realistic that many listeners believed they were hearing actual news reports.  This led to widespread hysteria and panic over the terrifying Martian invasion!

In the Playmakers' presentation, half the stage features voice actors in period costumes, playing radio actors creating the original broadcast.  The other half features a modern technical crew, directing the actors and providing realistic sound effects using everyday objects.  The whole family will enjoy watching both sides combine to create this exciting stage presentation!
