Loudoun Museum Launches New Website

Learn about the museum's online offerings and take a tour during First Friday reception this week.

Looking for some historical information about Loudoun County? Now, it’s just a click away on the newly revamped website created by the Loudoun Museum.

“The new website really expands our presence in the local community, as well as the cultural community as a whole,” said museum curator Alana Blumenthal.

Some of the new features include a calendar that highlights cultural events in Loudoun County, as well the museum’s revamped programming and online data. The site offers 5,800 records and 4,100 associated images.

Blumenthal said the museum would like to encourage students, genealogists, researchers and casual viewers to explore and learn from anywhere in the world.

"The website has also allowed us to step into the 21st century in terms of community support,” Blumenthal said. “Visitors can schedule group visits, purchase our book, and become members through simple online processes.”

A ceremony has been set for Friday, Feb. 1, to kick off the museum’s new website as part of Leesburg’s First Friday events. The public is invited to learn how the site works, and partake in wine and refreshments. Entry to the museum will be free for the event. Blumenthal will provide a demonstration at the visitor kiosk.

Visiting the museum can be a great way to introduce the family to local history; it displays Civil War artifacts, period clothing and items from everyday life in Loudoun.

“The museum has an entire exhibit dedicated to hands-on learning for children,” Blumenthal explained. “Based on an early 19th Century household, the displays include dress up, kitchen, games and schoolhouse activities.”
