Q&A with Wesley Hagood, Author of ‘Presidential Sex’

Some insight into one of Loudoun's many local authors kicks off this new column.

Loudoun County has spawned numerous writers in various genres and the new Loudoun Writers column is intended to focus on them and their works. Wesley Hagood authored is the author of ‘Presidential Sex: From the Founding Fathers to Bill Clinton, a book that had to be updated and have its title changed after Clinton's term. Hagood took time to answer a few questions for Patch.

Q. When did you first begin to write and what motivated you to do so?
A. I have always written since childhood and as part of my vocation.  I first realized I wanted to be a published writer in around 1990.

Q. Describe the type of books you publish and why?
A. I have published two books about presidential history and several journal articles.  I wanted to publish a book that I thought others would want to read and to answer for myself and my readers the question, “What really happened to these men who became president?”

Q. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
A. I have always wanted to be a writer.

Q. How long did it take you to have your first submission published from the time you started writing?
A.  6 months

Q. What is the first book you remember reading?
A. Dick and Jane

Q. What is the most recent book you have read?
A. The Big Shift: Navigating the New Stage Beyond Midlife by Marc Freedman 2010 published by Public Affairs Press, New York, NY

Q. Are you currently writing a book now and if so can you describe it?
A. I am currently working on a book about raising teenagers, something I have done four times already and will do twice again in the next decade.

Q. Who are your favorite fiction or non-fiction authors?
A. My favorite fiction authors include Robert B. Parker and favorite non-fiction authors include those who can speak authoritatively about the publishing industry like Oscar Collier and Frances Spatz Leighton.

Wesley O. Hagood attended the University of Maryland at College Park, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and a Masters of Arts degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Bowie State University. He currently works as a management consultant and acts like an architect that specializes in helping government organizations develop a blueprint and roadmap to improve organizational performance by developing better plans, improving core business processes, and measuring results. Mr. Hagood has published two books and two articles within juried professional journals. Writing has been a part of his career since it began.
