Ashburn residents who love music will be asked to support one
of their local high school programs Sept. 7 as members of the Briar Woods High
School Band fan out across the area to raise money as part of their annual Tag
Students in the band will go door-to-door in their neighborhoods from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 7 asking for contributions to the school’s band programs that will be used for competition fees, supplies, sheet music, uniform upkeep, instruction and equipment.
According to the BWHS Music Boosters, the students rely heavily on Tag Day, collecting nearly 20 percent of expenditures for the various school bands each year on that day.
In 2012-13, Briar Woods was named a Virginia Honor Band for receiving superior ratings in both marching and district concert festivals. Next spring, the band will travel to Pigeon Forge, TN, for a music festival.
Members of the various band programs – Falconaires, Jazz Bands, Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Symphonic Winds, WinterGuard, and Winter Drum line – have performed in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Orlando, Carnegie Hall and London.
