School Administrators Hold Firm on Walking Policy; Will Your Children Walk?

About 3,700 students across the county will no longer receive bus service, including some in elementary school.

Despite parents across Loudoun County crying foul over a new school policy that will force 3,700 students to walk to school, Loudoun County Public Schools this week stood by its decision to follow the existing, yet overlooked, policy.

The move means that high school and middle school students who live within one mile of their school must walk or find a ride to school, and elementary students living within eight-tenths of a mile of their school must walk or find a ride.

The decision comes in a year when some parents in Brambleton are attempting to block boundary changes because they want their children to be able to walk to Briar Woods rather than be bussed to a new school in Loudoun Valley Estates. That lawsuit is scheduled for a hearing this month.
