Mental Health Awareness Month

Loudoun County Public Library recognizes Mental Health Awareness Month each May with featured programs to provide information and inspiration, and to encourage open dialogue. The following programs will be held at Cascades Library, 21030 Whitfield Place in Potomac Falls at 7:00 P.M. on May 17 and May 24. All programs are free and open to the public, recommended for teens and adults.

7:00 P.M., May 17, In Our Own Voices presented by Loudoun Friends of Mental Health

Loudoun residents will explain the challenges and dark days of mental illness and describe their paths toward recovery. You will leave full of admiration for their courage and enthusiastic about their futures.

7:00 P.M., May 26, Hopeless No More: Pete and Mike Earley in Conversation

A close look at the most successful mental health recovery programs around the country, led by acclaimed author and journalist, Pete Earley. A Pulitzer Prize finalist for his book, Crazy: A Father’s Search Through America’s Mental Health Madness, and the author of 12 other books, Earley has visited 46 states and toured more than 100 programs in search of the best including Housing First, ACT Teams, Crisis Intervention Training, Mental Health Courts and Peer-to-Peer Support. Pete’s son Mike will speak about how he finally was able to control the symptoms of his illness and become a successful peer-to-peer specialist.
